Fire Destroys Millions in Naira at Shril-Balaj Factory in Ibadan
A massive fire tore through Shril-Balaj Industrial Limited in Ibadan’s Olopomeji area, Oyo State, on July 20, 2025, destroying properties worth millions of naira.
The blaze, sparked by a machine explosion, consumed the facility’s recycling section, where disused tyres fueled the inferno. Maroof Akinwande, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, confirmed the incident, stating, “The fire incident was a result of the explosion of a running machine, which ignited nearby combustibles and set the section ablaze.” The fire was reported at 7:07 AM, and firefighters contained it, preventing further spread to other sections of the factory.
No casualties were reported, but the financial toll was significant, with losses estimated in the millions of naira.
