Lagos LG Poll: Berger Road Barricades Halt Vehicles, Strand Passengers
On July 12, 2025, road barricades at Berger disrupted vehicular and pedestrian movement in Lagos as security operatives enforced restrictions for the Lagos LG poll. By 7:32 AM, a combined team of police, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and military personnel patrolled the area, turning back vehicles and causing long queues, with many passengers forced to trek to their destinations.
The Lagos LG poll, aimed at electing officials for 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), prompted the Lagos State Police Command to restrict movement from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM to ensure a peaceful election.
However, some residents expressed frustration, citing a lack of awareness about the restrictions. One passenger, approaching a senior police officer at Berger, said, “We are unaware that there was an election in the state. We are just coming from Port Harcourt. We are here for something. We are going to Ikeja.” Despite their pleas, access was denied.
The restrictions, part of comprehensive security measures, left scores of commuters stranded at Berger, a key entry point to Lagos.
The heavy presence of security personnel underscored efforts to maintain order during the Lagos LG poll, with military patrols reinforcing the barricades.
