Tinubu Vows to Build on Buhari’s Legacy, Strengthen Reforms Through Renewed Hope Agenda
President Bola Tinubu Vows to build on the legacy of former President Muhammadu Buhari, assuring Nigerians that the reform-focused path initiated by his predecessor will continue under his Renewed Hope Agenda.
He made this known in Abuja during the launch of a new book authored by Malam Garba Shehu, former Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Buhari. The book, titled “According to the President: Lessons from a Presidential Spokesman’s Experience”, documents Shehu’s career and his years of service in the presidency.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, President Tinubu said Buhari laid a strong foundation for reforms in key sectors and deserves recognition for his leadership.
“The efforts of one administration laid the foundation for the next. In this regard, I acknowledge the efforts of my predecessor, President Muhammadu Buhari, and assure all Nigerians that the reform-oriented path he initiated will be consolidated and strengthened under this administration,” Tinubu said in a statement by the Director of Information, Office of the SGF, Segun Imohiosen.
Tinubu also praised Buhari’s values of integrity, prudence, accountability, and patriotism, saying they shaped his administration’s achievements in infrastructure and the fight against insecurity.
He emphasized that his Renewed Hope Agenda is designed to build a resilient, just, and inclusive Nigeria where the dividends of democracy are available to all.
In his remarks, the author, Garba Shehu, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in Buhari’s administration, reflecting on the challenges and lessons of managing communication at the highest level of government.
He said the book serves as a guide for public communicators, policy makers, and anyone interested in governance and media strategy.
The event was chaired by former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, who praised Buhari’s forthrightness and patriotism in tackling Nigeria’s major security and economic challenges.
“President Buhari deserves commendation for surmounting many of the inherited challenges with discipline and patriotism,” Gowon said, while also saluting Nigeria’s Armed Forces for their sacrifices.
Also present at the event was immediate past Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who commended Shehu’s journey from journalism to presidential communications, describing him as calm and professional.
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, also spoke at the event, noting that Shehu’s elevation from campaign spokesman to presidential aide was earned through merit and a track record in journalism.
He added that the book is divided into three key parts offering insight into the presidency’s inner workings, Buhari’s leadership approach, and a summary of his administration’s performance from 2015 to 2023.
The event drew notable personalities from Nigeria’s political, diplomatic, and media sectors, further reflecting on the national relevance of Buhari’s legacy and the path ahead for Tinubu’s administration.
