Tinubu Will Be Voted Out, Not Overthrown – ADC Replies Presidency’s Overthrow Accusation

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has responded strongly to a recent comment made by President Bola Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, who claimed that the opposition is planning to overthrow the government.

In a statement signed by ADC’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said Tinubu will be removed from office through democratic voting, not by violence.

Abdullahi described Onanuga’s comment as “reckless” and “dangerous.” He said the Presidency might be using it as an excuse to start clamping down on opposition leaders.

In his words:

“ADC condemned the tweet made by an aide of President Bola Tinubu, Onanuga, which alleges that the opposition is planning to overthrow the Tinubu government before 2027. If anything, it potentially lays the grounds for systematic clampdown on opposition leaders.”

He added that ADC is not interested in breaking Nigeria’s democracy, but instead wants to save the country from what they describe as a failing government.

“The ADC is not interested in truncating democracy. We are solely committed to saving the nation from the irredeemable incompetence of this government. We are not soldiers, we are politicians. We don’t have bullets; we only have the ballots.”

Abdullahi ended by saying that when election time comes, ADC will offer Nigerians a better solution and allow the people to decide.
