Deadly Clash in Katsina: 30 Bandits, 6 Security Personnel, Civilian Killed in Counter-Attack

A deadly clash broke out on Monday, July 8, in Katsina State as joint security forces engaged heavily armed bandits in a fierce gun battle, killing at least 30 of them.

The coordinated attacks, which hit three villages in Faskari Local Government Area : Kadisau, Raudama, and Sabon Layi left a trail of destruction and loss.

According to a statement by the Katsina State Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, the bandits stormed the communities around 5pm. A combined team of the Police Mobile Force, Nigerian Army, and Nigerian Air Force was quickly deployed and responded with force.

Backed by airstrikes and reinforcements, the security forces managed to repel the attackers. The ministry confirmed that 30 bandits were gunned down as they attempted to escape under aerial bombardment.

Tragically, the counter-operation also claimed the lives of six security operatives and one civilian. The police lost Inspector Suleiman Ibrahim, Inspector Bello Bala, and Corporal Mohammed Lawal in the encounter. Two soldiers also died during the battle in Sabon Layi, while a civilian, Aliyu Sa’adu from Kadisau, was killed.

One soldier, Ya’u Aliyu, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment.
