A Hero’s Heart: Celebrating Anja Ringgren Lovén’s Impact on Young Lives at Land of Hope
In a world where some children face unimaginable hardship, one woman’s compassion shines brightly, transforming lives and giving hope to the hopeless. Anja Ringgren Lovén, the founder of Land of Hope, has spent over a decade rescuing and nurturing children who have been abandoned, tortured, or falsely labeled as witches.
Her unwavering dedication has turned pain into promise, and her story, rooted in love and resilience, deserves to be celebrated. Today, we honor Anja’s incredible work, spotlighting the journey of one child, Samuel, and the many others she has lifted up.
Twelve years ago, in 2013, Anja rescued Samuel, a young boy whose life was marked by cruelty. His stepfather accused him of being a witch, a baseless claim that led to him being locked in a room for days without food, beaten, and cut with knives. Such accusations are a heartbreaking reality for some children in Nigeria, but Anja’s intervention gave Samuel a new beginning. Through Land of Hope, she provided him with safety, care, and a chance to heal.

Samuel’s story is a testament to Anja’s mission to rescue children from abuse and give them a future filled with opportunity.
Under Anja’s care, Samuel has blossomed into an extraordinary young man. Last year, he earned a certification in cooking and baking, showcasing his talent in the kitchen. But his gifts don’t stop there.
At Land of Hope, Anja ensured Samuel had access to a music room, something he had never experienced before. With no prior experience playing instruments, Samuel taught himself to play the piano and has become one of the organization’s best music students. His melodies are a symbol of hope, proving that with love and support, children can overcome their past.

This year, Samuel achieved another milestone: he graduated from high school alongside eight other children at Land of Hope – Victory, Abia, Anefiok, Godwin, Deborah, Sara, Ekemini, and Grace. Anja’s pride in their success is palpable, though she admits to shedding tears every time a child moves on to the next chapter. With 20 children from Land of Hope already studying at university, Anja’s work has created a pipeline of opportunity.
Samuel is now preparing for university, a step that will take him closer to his dreams. Anja’s heart aches at the thought of him leaving, but her joy in his progress is undeniable.
Anja’s impact goes beyond individual stories. By providing quality education, she empowers children like Samuel to shape Nigeria’s future. Her belief in their potential is unwavering, and with the support of donors, she ensures that children like Victory, Abia, and the others can pursue higher education. Land of Hope is more than a shelter – it’s a launchpad for dreams, proving that every child, no matter their past, can achieve greatness.
Anja Ringgren Lovén’s work at Land of Hope is a beacon of hope. Through her tireless efforts, children once abandoned or tortured are now thriving, learning, and dreaming big. Samuel’s journey from a locked room to a high school graduate and aspiring pianist reflects the transformative power of Anja’s love. As she continues to change lives, we celebrate her as a true hero, giving Nigeria’s youth the chance to soar.
