Thousands Dump PDP for APC in Ondo Federal Constituency
In a major political shift in Ondo State, more than 10,000 supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Idanre/Ifedore Federal Constituency switched allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday.
Leading the defection was the constituency’s representative in the House of Representatives, Mr. Festus Akingbaso, who officially announced his move to the APC.
The event, held in Idanre town, saw the new members welcomed by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami. Adelami praised the federal lawmaker for leading by example and commended him for bringing his supporters into the ruling party.
“I want to congratulate our people in Idanre and Ifedore LGAs for having a worthy son, who has been representing you well at the National Assembly. Festus Akingbaso has witnessed all that the APC is doing in Ondo State and at the federal level. We are happy to receive him and members of the PDP,” said Aiyedatiwa.
During the ceremony, the APC State Chairman, Ade Adetimehin, presented the party flag to Akingbaso. He expressed confidence that the development marked the beginning of total dominance for the APC in the constituency. “The Federal constituency used to be divided for APC and PDP, but with the defection of Hon. Akingbaso to our party, Idanre and Ifedore will henceforth record 100 per cent votes for the APC.”
Adetimehin urged the people to rally behind President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said is focused on improving the lives of ordinary citizens. He affirmed that Ondo State is now firmly behind the APC.
Speaking at the gathering, Akingbaso credited Governor Aiyedatiwa for his inclusive leadership style and commitment to the well-being of the people. He said his decision to join the APC was based on the need to support the governor in delivering good governance at the grassroots level.
“As a member of the National Assembly for two years, I have witnessed the giant strides of President Tinubu at the top level, and it is important that I bring my supporters to work with the governor in Ondo for the overall success of the party,” Akingbaso stated.
