Nigerian Woman’s Shop Set Ablaze by Husband After She Tried to Leave Marriage
A shocking incident in Asaba has left a Nigerian woman devastated after her husband allegedly set her shop on fire. The fire not only destroyed her business but also affected neighboring shops, leaving the community in shock.
The woman, whose story was shared online by TikTok user @lucky, revealed that her shop represented years of hard work. She explained that she is now facing debts of over N8 million owed to customers and suppliers, as much of her stock was sold on credit.
According to reports, the husband’s alleged action was a reaction to his wife’s decision to end their marriage, reportedly because of his infidelity. The attack has sparked widespread outrage on social media, with many condemning the act and calling for justice.
In an interview shared online, the woman said, “That business is everything to me because I tried so much to make sure the business stands. The goods in that shop were even on credit. I’m owing customers not less than N8 million as it stands now. I sell provision and foodstuffs.”
TikTok user Lucky, who shared the video, also expressed her disappointment, saying, “Imagine burning your wife’s shop because you cheated on her and she refused to stay married to you. Wicked man. Imagine waking up to see your shop burnt down, including your neighbor’s shop, by your own husband.”
The incident has drawn attention to the dangers women can face in abusive relationships and raised calls for stronger legal protections and enforcement against domestic violence in Nigeria.
