Mercy Johnson-Okojie Appointed Edo State Adviser, Steps Into Government Role

Popular Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie has officially entered public service after receiving a major political appointment in Edo State.

The actress was appointed Special Adviser on Public Engagement and Advocacy by the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo.

The announcement was made on Thursday through a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikhilor.

According to the government, Mercy Johnson’s appointment is part of efforts to improve communication between the state government and the people, especially in explaining policies and programmes in a way ordinary citizens can understand.

The statement described the actress as a well-known entertainer, producer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. With almost two decades in Nollywood and over 200 movie roles, Mercy Johnson remains one of the most recognised faces in the industry.

Beyond acting, she is also known for her humanitarian work through the Mercy Johnson Okojie Foundation, which focuses on women empowerment, child welfare, education support, and healthcare outreach.

The government believes her strong connection with grassroots communities will help bring citizens closer to government activities.

For many fans, her move into governance did not come as a shock. Over the years, Mercy Johnson has often spoken about family values, community development, and social responsibility, using her platform to support charitable causes.

Her new role places her at the meeting point of entertainment and governance, with many observers saying her communication skills and relatability could help make government messages clearer and more relatable to the public.

Mercy Johnson is married to Odianosen Okojie, who currently represents Esan North East/South East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

Meanwhile, actress Angela Okorie recently issued a public apology to Mercy Johnson following past online attacks. In a video shared online, she expressed regret and said she wanted peace and an end to conflict.
