A student of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, has sparked widespread reactions after revealing that she abandoned her medical studies in 400 level to pursue a different course she felt deeply connected to.

The young woman, identified on TikTok as @perrymama34, shared her story in a video, explaining that although she was close to completing her medical degree, she knew her heart was no longer in the course.

According to her, leaving medicine for engineering was the hardest decision she had ever made. She explained that she had to start all over again from 200 level, a move many people described as going backwards.

Despite the criticism, insults, and moments of self-doubt that followed, she said she stood firmly by her decision.

“I was in 400 level studying a medical course. I was almost there. Almost done. Almost called ‘Doctor.’ But deep down, I knew my heart was somewhere else,” she wrote.

She explained that she chose to leave because remaining in a path that did not align with her passion would have been more painful in the long run.

“So I made the hardest decision of my life . I walked away. I left 400 level to start again from 200 level in Engineering. Yes, I went backwards. Yes, people talked. Yes, I was insulted. Yes, I doubted myself some nights,” she shared.

The student admitted that starting afresh was not easy, especially being older than many of her classmates and having to constantly explain her decision to people.

However, she stressed that staying in a place where she no longer belonged would have cost her inner peace.

“But I chose peace over pressure. I chose purpose over pride. I chose my dream over people’s expectations,” she said.

She concluded her post with a message of encouragement to others facing similar crossroads, urging them to trust their own journey and not live their lives to satisfy societal expectations.

The video, which also showed moments with her engineering classmates, has since drawn mixed reactions online, with many praising her courage and honesty.
