Tinubu: Late Awujale Predicted My 8-Year Presidency
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu revealed that the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Dr. Sikiru Kayode Adetona, predicted his 2023 presidential election victory and re-election for a second term, totaling eight years in office.
Speaking at the 8th-day Fidau prayer for the monarch at Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, on July 20, 2025, Tinubu said, “I was successful because of your support and the blessing of the late Awujale. I came to him and he blessed me. He said, ‘You will win that election and you will be re-elected. Go ahead.’” The prophecy, Tinubu noted, bolstered his confidence during the campaign.
Tinubu praised Oba Adetona’s wisdom and courage, describing him as a symbol of Yoruba culture and a steadfast supporter during the June 12, 1993, election annulment crisis: “During our protests and resistance against the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Baba was always there – steadfast and encouraging.” He highlighted the monarch’s Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) honor at age 90, adding, “Very honest, very bold, and very truthful – he would not deceive you.”
Urging Ijebuland’s unity, Tinubu stated, “Kabiyesi was more than a monarch; he was a beacon of hope and a custodian of our culture.
We must cherish his legacy and allow the spirit of unity he left behind to guide us.” He visited the monarch’s family privately and laid a wreath at his resting place.
The Fidau drew dignitaries like First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Governors Dapo Abiodun and Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, former Governor Olusegun Osoba, ministers, and senators. Governor Abiodun called Oba Adetona a “true patriarch” whose reign transformed Ijebuland, saying, “His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
