Arsenal Secure £48.5M Signing of Noni Madueke from Chelsea

Arsenal have finalized the transfer of 23-year-old England winger Noni Madueke from Chelsea for an initial £48.5 million, with the fee potentially exceeding £50 million through add-ons. Madueke, who left Chelsea’s Club World Cup squad in the United States before their 3-0 win over Paris St-Germain on July 13, 2025, to complete the move, has signed a five-year contract at Emirates Stadium.

Madueke expressed his excitement on Instagram, writing: “Humbled and blessed to be here. Thank you to everyone that made this possible. I can’t wait to get on the pitch and start to repay the faith shown in me. It’s going to be so special.” Having joined Chelsea from PSV Eindhoven for £30 million in January 2023, he made 92 appearances, scored 20 goals, and helped secure the Conference League title last season. His earlier career included stints at Crystal Palace and Tottenham academies, plus a Dutch Cup win during four-and-a-half years in the Netherlands.

Madueke debuted for England in August 2024, notably assisting Harry Kane’s winning goal in a 1-0 World Cup qualifier against Andorra in June 2025 under Thomas Tuchel. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised the signing, stating: “Noni is an exciting and powerful young player, with his performances and numbers in recent seasons being of consistently high quality. He is one of the most talented wide forward players in the Premier League.

At just 23, Noni already brings experience of club and international football, and he knows the Premier League very well. Having seen the quality of Noni’s performances up close in recent seasons, we’re really excited he is joining us. His arrival will really improve our squad.”

The transfer sparked backlash from some Arsenal fans, with a #NoToMadueke petition garnering over 5,000 signatures and vandalism of murals outside Emirates Stadium demanding “Arteta out.” Madueke is Arsenal’s fourth summer signing, following goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea, midfielders Christian Norgaard from Brentford, and Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. The club is also close to signing Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres and Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera.

Madueke primarily plays on the right, where he logged 88% of his Premier League minutes, a position dominated by Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, who started 108 of 114 league matches from 2021-22 to 2023-24 but missed three months last season due to a hamstring injury

. Madueke offers a capable backup for Saka and can also compete with Gabriel Martinelli on the left, having started four of Chelsea’s final five Premier League matches last season and the Conference League final on that side. His recent England performances, including three assists in seven matches, highlighted his versatility, notably with a left-wing assist for Kane against Andorra.
