Keely Hodgkinson to Miss London Diamond League Due to Recovery
Olympic 800m champion Keely Hodgkinson will not compete in the London Diamond League on July 19, 2025, as she prioritizes recovery from a February 2025 hamstring injury.
The 23-year-old Briton, who has not raced since her 800m gold at the Paris Olympics on August 5, 2024, is focusing on regaining full fitness for the World Championships in Tokyo in September 2025.
Hodgkinson faced a minor setback in June but is now back in full training. She decided to delay her outdoor season opener, deeming the London Diamond League too soon for her comeback. “Finding top form in time for September’s World Championships in Tokyo, Japan is the priority for Manchester-born runner,” her team noted, emphasizing her goal to secure gold after silver medals at the 2022 and 2023 World Championships.
The London Diamond League, the 11th of 15 meets in the 2025 season, will also miss Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen due to injury, dimming the anticipated rivalry with Britain’s Josh Kerr. Hodgkinson, awarded an MBE in May 2025, set a British 800m record of 1:54.61 at London Stadium in 2024 and ran 1:56.72 to win Olympic gold in Paris.
Her focus on the World Championships underscores her strategic approach to the London Diamond League absence.
